Bill Clinton speaks at the Universidad Europea de Madrid on the great challenges facing the World today
Universidad Europea de Madrid
Clinton took advantage of his visit to Spain to promote his Foundation, whose main objective is to develop projects that may contribute to solving the great challenges facing today’s society.
Former US President William Jefferson Clinton gave a speech on the current global economic situation at Universidad Europea de Madrid, member of the Laureate International Universities network. Laureate is a world-wide leader in higher education, with 43 learning institutions in 20 countries, and nearly 500,000 students.
Bill Clinton began his speech by emphasizing the importance of a University education, which he referred to as the unquestionable backbone of developed societies. He gave special mention to his host, the Laureate International Universities network, and specifically Universidad Europea de Madrid, regarding it as an exemplary learning institution in education in today’s society.
In Clinton’s words, universities are the key to improving the problems of interdependent societies, societies whose positive and negative aspects are quickly shared. One example of this is the current financial crisis or the international crisis caused by the outbreak of Swine Flu.
The interdependent world, according to Bill Clinton, has three main challenges to overcome: poverty, health care, and the environment. These are problems that all governments in the world need to address, as well as Non-Government Organizations.
Following this introduction, the former US President presented his NGO, The Clinton Foundation, a personal project that he has been carrying out for ten years, bringing together the will and effort of world leaders, university students, and citizens. The Foundation’s main objective is to identify and develop projects that will contribute to solving the major challenges of the world today.
The Laureate International Universities network, to which Universidad Europea de Madrid belongs, collaborates with The Clinton Foundation and maintains a high level of commitment in all the areas mentioned.
Universidad Europea de Madrid, in addition to being a model of quality in university education, at both undergraduate and graduate levels, is involved in various social programs.
