Juan Soto inaugurates the new Master’s Degrees in Information Technology Management and in Information and Communications Systems Security

School of Engineering

This past 12th of November, D. Juan Soto, honorary president, Hewlett-Packard Spain and member of the UEM Advisory Board, inaugurated the new editions of the Master’s Degree in Information Technology Management and the Master’s Degree in Information and Communications Systems Security (third and second respectively).

The act, which took place at the Villaviciosa de Odón Campus, featured the presence of the Dean of the Engineering School (José Enrique Fernández) along with the Academic Managers of both Masters. Also present was Miguel Ángel Pascual, Operations Manager for Outsourcing for INDRA and Co-manager for one of the Masters.

At the event, Juan Soto opened his presentation by analyzing the new role of the Spanish University within the European Space for Higher Education; he followed with an overview of the history of information technologies taken from his own experiences and his perspective based on years as a major player in the field.

At the close of the event, an interesting debate was carried out between the presenter and those present in the audience (professors, students and alumni of the Masters program) concerning the differences between Anglo-Saxon and Latin cultures in their manner of taking on challenges and their differing capacities for innovation. They also talked about the necessity that, a university, such as in this case the Spanish university, has in shifting towards a model of study that emphasizes entrepreneurship and research as patent generating resources as opposed to pure knowledge, he also pointed out the definitive tack that UEM has already taken in this direction.
