Quirón Madrid obtains official recognition as a University Hospital

The first Medical students from Universidad Europea de Madrid will arrive at the center next year.
In order to become a university hospital, Quirón Madrid had to obtain official recognition from the Laín Entralgo Agency that the center does not only have the necessary infrastructure in order to provide training, but also has all the necessary healthcare indicators available in order to be quality teaching center (average hospitalization time, cross-consultation rate, follow-up of bacteriemias…)
“As practitioners we are required to keep our knowledge up-to-date, but the fact we are a university hospital creates even more obligation. Furthermore, it assists the research carried out in the hospital (more than 50 clinical trials have already been carried out) and requires a constant update to the knowledge base and to have the latest technology available in order to provide the best training”, explains Dr. Vicente Martínez, President of the Faculty Board of the Quirón Madrid Hospital, who also stresses the value of this achievement: “It is a milestone that a private center that has been in operation for three years has been able to achieve the level of excellence required to be considered as a university hospital”.
Following the official recognition as a university hospital, works have been started in preparation for the arrival of the students. Firstly, in coordination with all the services, is the organization of the hospital Faculty. This is a task that is at an advanced stage, as at the moment, professionals from Quirón Madrid are giving classes at Universidad Europea de Madrid.
Furthermore all the professionals at Quirón Madrid who take part in the teaching of Medicine at Universidad Europea de Madrid are able to develop their teaching careers at this academic institution and choose from the positions of Associate Professor or Full Professor once they have obtained their official recognition from ANECA [ the Spanish National Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation] and have fulfilled the criteria of the University.
In the branch of Medicine, Quirón is going to offer training in all the specialties as required by the teaching calendars. A mixed hospital-university committee will distribute the times of classes, the practical sessions and seminars. The hospital will also adapt its infrastructure by building a library and an autopsy room in addition to the existing infrastructures. The students who attend Quirón Madrid from next year will not only be trained in equipped classrooms, but will also accompany the practitioners at the center on visits to patients, observing how their the examinations are carried out, which complementary tests are necessary in each case and how to carry out the diagnosis and selection of treatment.
Hospital Quirón Madrid has obtained the official recognition as a University Hospital from the Laín Entralgo Agency of the Autonomous Community of Madrid, by which the center is able to train Health Sciences students in the fields of Medicine, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy and Optometry.
