Universidad Europea de Madrid collaborates on the first european meeting for consumer protection

The First European Meeting for Consumer Protection will be held on March 1st of this year. This event is being organized by the Department of the Economy and Treasury of the Community of Madrid and which, together with other institutions, will feature the collaboration of Universidad Europea de Madrid.
The object of this forum will be to strengthen cross-border cooperation in terms of security, and to encourage synergies in the field of consumer protection within the European Union. At this gathering representatives from the Administrations of the European Union, Canada, the United States, France and Portugal will participate, they will be joined by representatives from the National Institute for Consumer Affairs and the Consumer Affairs Department of the Community of Madrid. The meeting will also feature members of the business community and consumers as represented by leading associations in each field.
Consumer protection is one of the outstanding fields of research at Universidad Europea de Madrid which has led to the organization of conferences and projects brought about at the very heart of this educational institution along with the collaboration of other institutions such as the Consumer Affairs Department of the Community of Madrid. An example of the major implications of this area of research was the putting into operation (in collaboration with the National Institute for Consumer affairs) of the Spanish Center for the Exchange of Information which later gave rise to the European Center for Consumer Affairs which belongs to the European Extra-Judicial Network and which is concerned with filing complaints of Spanish consumers for acts of consumption outside of Spain.
Gema Botana, Department Head at the Law Department at Universidad Europea de Madrid and Expert for the Consumer Affairs Council for the Community of Madrid, will be moderating the Round Table discussion which will focus on the Spanish experience with regards to security. Likewise, the Rector of Universidad Europea de Madrid; Águeda Benito along with Eva Piera Rojo, Deputy-Councilor of Economy, Trade and Consumer Affairs for the Community of Madrid will be in charge of bringing the event to a close.
