Social Entrepreneurship

Social Entrepreneurship

“If we all did the things we are really capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves.....”
T. Edison.

Social entrepreneurship can be defined as a commitment to the creation of new enterprises with the goal of developing goods and services that satisfy the basic needs of groups otherwise neglected by conventional social and economic institutions. Values such as initiative, commitment, self-reliance, risk-taking, eagerness, confidence, and determination, values intrinsic to the traditional business entrepreneur, are also fundamental values for working with social initiatives.

Social Entrepreneurs? Who are they?

Tireless workers.
D. Bornstein

According to Ashoka, social entrepreneurs possess two outstanding attributes: an innovative idea capable of producing significant social change and an entrepreneurial spirit for when it comes time to putting their plans into action. They are individuals who possess the vision, creativity, and determination traditionally associated with business entrepreneurs, but whose motivation is that of generating profound and lasting social change rather than economic profit. Social entrepreneurs have become key in driving innovation at the local level, which in turn creates a chain reaction leading to real solutions with a global impact.
