PhD in Multidisciplinary Engineering

Before dissertations are presented, Universidad Europea de Madrid requires students who have not previously completed equivalent courses to finish 12 ECTS credits of complementary training in scientific research procedures and methodology. These complementary courses are structured into 4 blocks covering the following material:

  • Scientific Methodology and Theory of Knowledge (3 ECTS)
  • Data Processing (3 ECTS)
  • Research-Associated Resources (3 ECTS)
  • Practicum  (3 ECTS)

Once the student has successfully completed the stage of pre-dissertation coursework, and after having completed the complementary research training, they may present their dissertation project. When approval of the dissertation is granted, the student can begin carrying out their project. The dissertation advisor will propose different activities and deadlines to ensure the success of the dissertation.

The dissertation must be an original research project carried out by the student completing their PhD in the field of Engineering. For this project, the student must incorporate a significant amount of elements from other areas of knowledge, or from branches of engineering other than the topic of the dissertation; the purpose of this requirement is to develop cross-disciplinary skills which will make PhD holders from this program stand out from the rest.
