During 2009, the number of mobile telephones in Spain reached 52.23 million units, representing an average of 113.2 telephones per 100 inhabitants. Following the entry into the mobile market of Google (with Android) and Apple (with iPhone), the development of this sector has been tremendous: more than 1.5 million titles are downloaded every month for small screens. In fact, Spain is one of the leading countries in the leisure consumer ranking for these devices, fourth placed in Europe, and sixth in the world.
The arrival of new personal devices on the market (latest generation mobiles, smartphones, PDAs, video consoles, GPSs, set-top boxes, etc.), which have ceased to be thought of as high-range and exclusive and have become low-cost terminals to be used on a daily basis, has resulted in the reinvention of traditional activities such as making a phone call, or sending or receiving e-mails (portable office).
This technological revolution has opened up a new range of possibilities linked to geolocation, real-time systems, technological integrations, intelligent systems, domotics and remote control, and even reached the revolutionary concept of extended reality: the superimposition of information onto reality captured by the camera.
The rapid proliferation of these types of terminals has increased the demand for specialized professionals: experts in the development, business, strategy, communication, advertising and integration of such devices. A group of professionals who, to date, have not been offered a specialized education that responds to this growing demand.
For this reason, Universidad Europea de Madrid has launched its Master’s Degree in New Device Technology and Business, the only Master’s Degree that is specialized in the development of applications, services and businesses related to mobile devices (iPhone, Android, PDA, Tablet PC, GPS, consoles, etc.).
We understand that today there is no company in existence, whether small, medium-sized or large multinational, that has not proposed or is already using mobile devices to implement their new projects, to improve the efficiency or quality of their services, or to expand into new business areas or markets.
It is precisely this variety and range of new ideas and solutions that can be proposed as a result of these mobile devices and cloud solutions, which has stimulated the launch of this graduate program.
This is a field in which there is an extremely high demand for professionals due to its extraordinarily rapid development. To date there has been no academic solution available from universities or the possibility for self-study, due to the complexity of dealing with diverse and new platforms/manufacturers/operators, operational systems (iPhone, Android, etc...) and capacities (extended reality, geolocation…). Companies urgently need professionals that are trained in all these new areas of knowledge, on both a technological level and a marketing and business level, so that these new solutions can be effectively applied to the market.
This Master’s Degree offers students two possible specialization branches:
Technological Expert
- With knowledge of how to program different devices and platforms including: iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile and Symbian.
- With the ability to integrate information systems, databases and mobile devices, both tailor-made and those that interrelate to technologies and already existing Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
Expert in Project Administration, Management and Marketing
- With the capacity for planning, sizing, content management, marketing and communication in new mediums, project management, and technological solutions.
As a result, the student will achieve a unique, global and sound perspective of the sector, thereby providing them with privileged access to the working world, as they will have a clear competitive advantage above other professionals, with a marked practical and specialized vision.
In this Master’s Thesis, students will deal with real-life situations, put into practice ideas, and detail a business plan that will form part of a specific project. This practical approach allows those students with vision and an entrepreneurial spirit to benefit from the tools they need to develop their creativity under the best possible conditions.
